Accounting/Tax Assistant

The Payroll Company, a growing organization that has been providing nationally-recognized payroll services since 1999 is seeking an Accounting/Tax Assistant to work at our corporate location in the Madison, WI area.  If you're seeking a position outside of the norm, our tremendous growth allows employees to develop unique and exciting career paths.  We also offer a casual and friendly work environment in a small organization but with the exciting challenge of working with diverse clients across many industries and locations. We are looking for a skilled Accounting Professional to perform a variety of accounting, treasury, payroll and financial tasks. If you enjoy working with treasury activities and are looking to get experience with taxes in multi-state scenarios the Accounting/Tax Assistant may be the job for you!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and upload daily bank files which includes submitting tax payments for multiple states and agencies.
  • Manage company positive pay processing including submitting a list of issued checks and approving and rejecting exceptions daily.
  • Reconcile bank activities and investigating variances. Respond to client inquiries regarding ACH transactions.
  • Complete invoice processing and collections.
  • Help maintain changes in payroll and tax systems, including assisting in gathering current UI rates and payroll tax deposit frequencies annually.
  • Import client payroll tax liabilities from payroll platforms.
  • Assist with resolution of tax notices and issues including providing help with monthly and quarterly payroll tax filing.
  • Collect documents from clients for tax setup including POA and new account registration documents.
  • Other projects and duties assigned by tax team members and leadership.

 

  Requirements:

  • AS or BS in Accounting or related field preferred. Will consider 1 3 years of payroll or accounting experience in lieu of degree.
  • Proven reliability and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel and Word.
  • Effective, professional and customer-focused verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • 45 wpm typing and strong 10-key calculator skills required.
