Junior Server Administrator

The Payroll Company's Professional Staffing division in Middleton, WI is recruiting for an exciting career opportunity. Our client located in the Madison suburbs is seeking a Junior Server Administrator for a 6 12 month contract role. This is a great entry level position where you'll be assisting in providing the technical expertise to recommend, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot the Company's Information Technology (IT) server infrastructure including servers, storage, and networking technologies.

 

Responsibilities

  • Independently makes critical technical decisions that may be needed to restore systems, perform maintenance, and/or complete critical tasks. These may be performed outside of normal business hours without guidance from supervisor.
  • Perform problem source identification and recommends and implements appropriate mitigation to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Assists in the development of maintenance standards, policies, and procedures affecting installation, testing, and deployment of new infrastructure systems.
  • Designs monitoring systems and solutions as necessary to ensure reliability and integrity of infrastructure components.
  • Designs and recommends review and evaluation process.
  • Executes infrastructure-related utilization and capacity planning activities.
  • Performs planning, coordination, and communication for system changes, outages, and problems.
  • Builds, tests, analyzes, and documents modifications and service procedures necessary to operate and sustain the operating system software and components.
  • Creates, maintains, and reviews multifaceted documentation for infrastructure systems.
  • Maintains awareness of computing and technology industry trends as they affect corporate systems, users, and business computing needs.
  • Complies with incident and change management processes and ensures adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other application controls.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience OR 3+ years of experience in system administration/technologies.
  • IT systems implementation and support experience integrating and supporting Microsoft core business applications (including, but not limited to, domain services, file, print, and clustering).
  • IT systems implementation and support experience integrating and supporting virtual environments (such as those built on Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware technologies).
  • IT systems support experience utilizing SAN and virtual SAN technologies.
  • Knowledge implementing and maintaining common TCP/IP services including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, etc.
  • Knowledge of server operating systems, applications, and system hardware.
  • Conceptual knowledge of networking and firewall concepts.
  • Knowledge of multiplatform computer identity access technologies and methods.
  • Experience applying industry-wide security controls and processes in an open systems environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to translate user project needs into technical solutions.
  • Able to recognize system or component failures requiring expertise of vendors or contracted services.
  • Able to learn and apply new technologies to existing and future business needs.
  • Adaptable to multitasking on projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong planning, verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with nontechnical management and staff.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Able to provide on-call coverage within a defined rotation.

 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, etc.).
