Junior Network Administrator

The Payroll Company's Professional Staffing division in Middleton, WI is recruiting for an exciting career opportunity. Our client located in the Madison suburbs is seeking a Junior Network Administrator for a 6 12 month contract role (with a strong potential to extend). This is a great entry level position where you'll be assisting in the daily administration of the company's Information Technology (IT) network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, WAN/LAN communications, and internet connectivity.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, administer, and support network infrastructure.
  • Perform network device configuration, backup, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform problem source identification and recommends and implements appropriate mitigation to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Independently makes critical technical decisions that may be needed to restore systems, perform maintenance, and/or complete critical tasks. These may be performed outside of normal business hours without guidance from supervisor.
  • Assists in the development of maintenance standards, policies, and procedures affecting installation, testing, and deployment of new network infrastructure environments.
  • Designs monitoring systems and solutions as necessary to ensure reliability and integrity of network infrastructure components.
  • Designs and recommends review and evaluation process.
  • Executes network-related utilization and capacity planning activities.
  • Performs planning, coordination, and communication for system changes, outages, and problems.
  • Builds, tests, analyzes, and documents modifications and service procedures necessary to operate and sustain the corporate network environments.
  • Creates, maintains, and reviews multifaceted documentation for all network infrastructure systems.
  • Maintains awareness of computing and networking industry trends as they affect corporate systems, users, and business computing needs.
  • Complies with incident and change management processes and ensures adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other application controls.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience OR 3+ years of experience in Network administration/technologies (Cisco preferred).
  • IT network implementation and support experience integrating and supporting Cisco and Dell hardware and software (including, but not limited to, routers, switches, load balancers, proxy servers, and Internet-facing appliances).
  • Implementation and support experience with firewall systems, security appliances, and VPN hardware and software.
  • IT systems support experience integrating and supporting multisite networks and mobile workforce needs.
  • Knowledge implementing and maintaining common network technologies including DNS, IP Routing, HTTP, QOS, NAT, IDS/IPS, VPN, etc.
  • Setup and configuration of wireless networking components.
  • Setup and configuration of switching and VLAN environments.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, network protocols, and routing/switching concepts.
  • Conceptual knowledge of server infrastructure and supporting hardware such as blade chassis and SAN.
  • Knowledge of utilizing common network sniffer tools to monitor, diagnose, and troubleshoot network-related problems.
  • Maintenance of network security through proper configuration of firewalls and VPN appliances.
  • Strong analytical skills to translate user project needs into technical solutions.
  • Able to recognize system or component failures requiring expertise of vendors or contracted services.
  • Able to learn new technologies and apply them to existing and future business needs.
  • Able to multitask on projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong planning, verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with nontechnical management and staff.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Able to provide on-call coverage within a defined rotation.

 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, etc.).
